Our Rug Washing Process
Your area rug is a prized possession that deserves the best possible care. To look its best, regular area rug cleaning and maintenance are essential to avoid permanent damage from spills, stains, spots, tears, rips or fraying. Perhaps an older rug needs overdue attention, and you’re not sure if it can be restored to its previous glory. Look no further than Peacock Rug Care. So how do we do it? Each individual rug is unique, and therefore dictates how it is to be cleaned. This whole process is repeated over two to three days where we spend hours working on your rugs.
Inspection
When your rug arrives at our facility, it is carefully inspected for spots and stains, mildew, moth damage, soil conditions, wear, or concerns such as pet odors, etc. We then photograph the whole rug, measure and determine a cost for service and the best approach of washing.
Dusting
The next step in your spa treatment is a thorough dusting of your rug. Dry soil removal is critically important to restoring the appearance and maintaining the life of your rug. Although regular vacuuming can remove some of the particulates close to the surface, a vacuum is not powerful enough to remove dirt that is deeply embedded in the foundation of the rug. Those deeply embedded dry soils are abrasive and grinds away at your rug fibers like sandpaper every time you walk across your rug! Your rug is fed through our large dusting machine multiple times until the sand and grit has been removed.
Washing
The spa treatment continues as your rug heads to the multistep wash process. The rug is now laid on our wash floor and soaked thoroughly using the appropriate products to loosen up any soils. It is then either gently massaged or power washed front and back then rolled and spun in our state of the art centrifuge leaving the rug damp to the touch.
Your rug is now placed in a bath to help rinse out more dirt and or products, power washed again, then spun. One more visit to another freshwater bath and then heads to the final spin of the day.
Drying
Once your rug is washed, your slightly damp rug comes out of the centrifuge and is hung on special flat racks or hanging poles to complete the drying phase. Air is gently circulated to further speed the evaporation process in a temperature and humidity controlled room. In a matter of a few hours, your rug will go from completely submerged in water to completely dry.
Final Inspection
Once dry, your rug will undergo a final detailed inspection. It then goes through a final dusting to ensure all sand is out of your rug, given a final vacuum and is then wrapped up, ready to go.
