What is Godly Worship?
I fully understand that the wickedness we are seeing in humanity today is nothing new. Since the first murder outside the Garden of Eden, this world has known evil at it's ugliest. This earth has been through the dark ages and times when Satan did his worst to keep the word of God from mankind. So, why is the decadence and debauchery that's permeating our world today so monumental? Because people in Jesus day didn't have the word of God available in every bookstore, online shopping store, and mall. There can be no excuse when we stand before God, because what we see today is not just blind ignorance, it's open rebellion against God. I think the one thing that keeps me up at night and keeps my mind in overdrive as I beg God for sleep is the fact that one day we will all stand before God. We will do this either as repentant sinners or hypocritical ones.
Is Christendom Effective Today?
After recently celebrating my forty-fourth birthday, I feel just as inadequate to spread the word of God as I did when I was in open rebellion as a pagan. What fuels this inadequacy? It can never be that God has moved away from me or that His word does not hold the wisdom needed to articulate His story. Its not the secular world around me falling apart as one human after another puts his or her faith in worldly religions. Nor is it the so called enlightened minds or thinkers of our day who kneel at the idolatrous alter of frail human reasoning and peoples never-ending search for the utopia of The Garden of Eden minus God. Its not even in my stumbles or those of my fellow Christians, or in our continual failure to somehow weave the distinct web called faith and good works.

I fully grasp that my omniscient and omnipotent God has everything well in hand. I fully understand that our salvation has nothing to with our good works, but is accounted to us through our righteousness in the death, resurrection, and the ascension to the throne of our King, Jesus Christ. Its a gift given to us by God on a daily basis.
Since I started Knight for Christ Ministry, I've longed to introduce people to the unadulterated truth and majesty of our almighty God, but I've been haunted by the idea that something wasnt right. I've been plagued by a never-ending and gnawing force deep down in my spirit that Christendom has lost it's effectiveness. Its like the word on the tip of your tongue that you can't seem to grasp. Or the thought in your mind that is so frustratingly elusive.
I am well educated in the realism of our fallen nature and the divide that exists between us and God, and that because of our desperately wicked and corrupted nature we cannot stand before God in our own right. What fuels my feelings of inadequacy and frustration is how Gods people daily take advantage of His precious divine gift. What shocks me is the continual refusal of my brothers and sisters in Christ everywhere who've just quit.
I guess that, as Protestants, we get comfortable in our so-called Doctrine of once saved, always saved. Gods word infallibly tells us that a child of God cannot be plucked from the hand of the Almighty. In our selfish mortality, I think many of us arise daily, embarrass God in our own perpetual vanity, and stop trying, at least momentarily, in our marriage, daily life, and walk with our brothers in sisters in Christ. In essence, through piety it's easy to arrive in our self-righteousness.
Dare I say that Satan has infiltrated our battle lines and blinded us to our commandment by God to grow in our faith and our Christian walk? Many Christians have consciously or unconsciously decided, We have arrived, and that We must be this way because God made us this way.
If you've read my book, Gods Truth or the Liberal Lie: America at the Crossroads , you know that like God I love a person who fails, apologizes, repents, and grows. But like God, I also abhor a quitter, and when looking at our Christian nation, I see a lot of quitters out there.
I am sure God is not impressed with our marches on Washington to stop the murder called abortion, and that He abhors when we shack up, accept the lie called same-sex marriage, and fail in our Christian marriages. On the horizon I can see a nation that will eventually ban abortion (well, other than rape and instances of the mothers well-being, which is still murder), while fully condoning pre-marital sex, same-sex marriage, and the breakdown of the marriage unit. This is in complete denial that God mentioned nothing in the Bible about abortion when He judged Sodom and Gomorrah. I fully accept the idea that some kind of atrocity towards children was taking place here, but Gods destruction was actually levied because of the sexual immorality that had so indwelled that society.
What Does This Have to Do with Me?
Some Christians reading this article are probably asking themselves, What does this have to do with me? They may say, I don't believe in either abortion or same-sex marriages, and I am faithful to my wedding vows. But is that true with all Christians? Are they faithful to their marriages and Christian relationships? With the alarming rate of divorces in Christian marriages, I don't think the statistics confirm this. So, what's the problem?
When studying the writings of John MacArthur, one of my favorite biblical warriors, it hit me the way it would if my wife we're to throw cold water over the shower curtain as I was taking a hot shower. I believe that many Christians have lost the sole purpose of their existence. God didn't make us because He needed us, He created us for His pleasure, and He created us to worship Him. God has put a deep-seated need to worship within our DNA, His fingerprint if you will. As our society so painfully bears fruit, if we don't worship God the biblical way, we will end up worshipping in the wrong way.
Hebrews 12:28 says, Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.
So, how does one serve God acceptably with reverence? In his book, Worship; The Ultimate Priority, John MacArthur says, The Bible clearly teaches that those who offer self-styled worship are unacceptable to God, regardless of their good intentions. No matter how pure our motivation may seem or how sincere we are in our attempt, it will fail to worship God as He has commanded. He cannot bless us.
Good works as in Catholicism are not saving, but they are the sign of true worship. And that defines the ever-allusive web of good works and salvation. Those good works are not punching our ticket to heaven, but they are defining our relationship and therefore our worship of our Father. This worship is giving your best to God by giving your best to those around you. Its knowing and living how the Bible commands us:
Hebrews 11:6 says, But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Seeking God (true worship) is living our lives by obeying His word and acting accordingly (good works). God gives us grace, and we give Him righteous acts as worship. To obey effectively means there can be no grace without good works. As Pastor Adrian Rogers of the Love Worth Finding Ministry has said, Everything we truly believe, we obey. Everything else is just religious talk.
